American sprinter Maurice Green has set the world record in the 100 metres. Green ran the race in 9.79 seconds at the Grand Prix Tsiklitiria in Athens Wednesday night. Green's lightning run, smashed the world record of 9.84 seconds set in 1996. Ato Bolton finished in second, with a time of 9.86 seconds. Bolton came to Athens this year determined to avenge his loss to Pat Fredericks who won the goldat the Tsiklitiria last year. Bolton did beat Fredericks - he finished in fourth place, with a time of 10.02 seconds.

Constant improvement. This is the goal of the Panellinios Athletic Club's organizers for the "Grand Prix II - Tsiklitiria 1999". With steady steps this goal becomes a reality. Whereas the meeting in 1998 was under the auspices of IAAF, as from 1999 it is included in the Grand Prix series, which is considered the elite of the International Federation's competition meetings.
The names of stars present during last year's event at the Athens Olympic Stadium, contsitute a guarantee for this year's event. The "Grand Prix II - Tsiklitiria 1999" event is the best Track and field event in Greece and leaves nothing to be desired with competition abroad.
All track and field fans will be given the opportunity to follow on June 16, 1999, the efforts of top athletes from all over the world together with the Greek champions who have "hoisted" many times this past decade the blue and white flag during great events.
